After a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Masters of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology and now a Masters of Arts in Teaching, my amazing husband finally gets to do the infamous walk!!! It was a long day beginning with an early start at 6am to beat the traffic and then waiting around til 10am for the ceremony. There were 6,000 graduates and of that, only 3000 were walking today. There was a huge ceremony for the whole school in the football stadium, which lasted an hour and then we all went to the individual departments to see each graduate walk the stage. There were 538 graduates in the education department, lucky for me, we snuck out after Clint got to walk!!(Clint wanted to leave too... lol)
The key note speaker for the main ceremony was Ben Stein who gave a great talk! I was so impressed with his speech, one of the best things that he said was that in todays world where you can't speak of religion in public places, it's great to be in a forum and place where you can say God and Jesus Christ and have it not mean something bad! (and he's jewish)
The music was just absolutely breathtaking, I can definitely say that there were so many people in the crowd moved to tears (including myself.. and yes Clint too..haha). It's great to see so many lives of people dedicated to the service of God.
There were so many people there it was estimated to be about 22,000 guests. You couldn't even use your cell phone, it kept beeping and then hanging up just like new years eve when the cell sites are overloaded and everyone is trying to send the mass texts!! The sun was hot, but thank goodness for the breeze, or I would have died.
After the initial ceremony individual schools/departments, had their own ceremony where the students had their name called out and got to walk the stage. I got to see my husband walk across the stage. For him, it wasn't a big deal, but I think everyone should get to do this at least once. He has been working on this degree, while holding a full time job as defensive coordinator for football, he is also the head strength and conditioning coach for 17 sports, and teaches jogging, health and wellness, sports and recreation and strength training classes at Southern Virginia University. He also serves in the church and is always willing to cook dinner!! I think that it is funny that the only purpose these degrees have for him, is to support the dream that he has to coach football (which he is doing and loving!! (he's an awesome coach!!)). He's such an inspiration to me, he willingly gets up at 5.15 in the morning and recruits til late (weird... because I don't know many people that like to get up that early...) but he loves football, and doesn't see it as work at all!
He has worked so hard, and done so much good in the lives of other people, and he will continue to bless the lives of others as he works in the education field. I'm so proud of him and blessed that I can be his wife and share this journey with him. I love you!
